Antlers is a supernatural horror film directed by Scott Cooper that was released in 2021. The plot revolves around a schoolteacher who believes one of her kids is coping with personal troubles at home, not realizing that the child is concealing a potentially dangerous item in his home.
After being delayed twice due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Antlers premiered at Beyond Fest on October 11, 2021, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 29, 2021, by Searchlight Pictures. Critics gave the picture mixed reviews, praising the photography, acting, and horror elements while criticizing the screenplay’s underdeveloped ideas.
The film “Antlers” is about gloom. The gloom of humanity. The supernatural darkness. Filmmaking darkness in the literal sense. It’s a slimy, nasty, violent film that doesn’t always come together, but it feels like the product of its creators’ obsessions, particularly director Scott Cooper and producer Guillermo del Toro. It, like earlier works by the author, focuses on those on the periphery of society who are burdened by tremendous emotional burdens. It imagines a world where real grief might lead to inconceivable tragedy, like in past works by the latter.
Know about the Filming Location
The city of Hope, British Columbia, is the principal filming location for antlers. Several local businesses were included in the movie, including Harlan’s Bookstore, Kan Yon Restaurant, and the Midtown Shopping Plaza. Wallace Street and 3rd Avenue served as the main thoroughfares of Cispus Falls, Oregon, which is, by the way, a completely fictional town. Greenery, forest cover, stunning waterfalls, and lakeside settlements are all features of Hope.
Another site where the cast and crew of Antlers shot footage for the horror film was Burnaby, British Columbia. Mammoth Studios is located in Burnaby, which is why it was chosen. Mammoth Studios provides a great deal of assistance when it comes to generating cinematic magic, especially for a horror film that needs a bit of additional work behind the scenes. Burnaby was home to production offices, workshop rooms, and sound stages.
Hope and Burnaby aren’t the only two locations in British Columbia where sequences for Antlers were shot. Minty Bay is a beachfront route that was chosen for the film, which makes sense given that it is a major tourist destination. Minty Bay used to be the spot to go if you wanted to go birdwatching or hiking for the day. Some of the shots were filmed in Alouette Lake in Maple Ridge, Blieberger Farm in Langley, Port Moody, Breckindale, and Squamish, so if you’re familiar with the area, you’ll know them.

Although the film is set in Oregon, it was shot entirely in British Columbia, and if the spectator didn’t know, they probably wouldn’t be able to tell. Antlers’ filmmakers did an excellent job of choosing a filming location that resembles what a state like Oregon would seem like in terms of wildlife, flora, hiking trails, waterfalls, and more.
