'Godzilla vs. Kong' Shatters HBO Max Record After Massive Opening

Godzilla vs. Kong, a massive hit right now, set a new HBO Max record after an incredible opening.

Godzilla vs. Kong, the monster film whose story requires little clarification, was released in the United States on 31st March in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time.

According to Deadline, WarnerMedia CEO Andy Forssell said the film enjoyed a greater viewership than any other feature or show on HBO Max since its inception.

As per the publication, 3.6 million households viewed at least the opening five minutes of the movie in its first five days, according to third-party streaming rating company Samba TV.

Despite the fact that this statistic only incorporates data from smart TVs, when opposed to HBO Max‘s second-biggest feature, Wonder Woman 1984, which uses the same parameters, its 3.6 million surpasses the DC heroine’s 2.2 million.

Godzilla vs. Kong is now the third highest-grossing movie of 2021, and the top Western picture on that chart. Hi, Mom (2021) and Detective Chinaman 3 (2020) are the two leading Chinese films, with grosses of $821 million and $688 million, respectively, eclipsing Godzilla vs. Kong‘s $300 million.

Warner has announced that, at least for the duration of 2021, virtually all of its titles will be broadcast in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously, much to the controversy surrounding this decision.

Meanwhile, experts claim Godzilla vs. Kong‘s box-office success in the current pandemic era is a promising sign for the future theatrical experience.
