Slam Dunk Season 2 – Is the Beloved Basketball Anime Series Coming Back?

Slam Dunk Season 2 - Is the Beloved Basketball Anime Series Coming Back?

Takehiko Inoue said in February that new illustrations of the Slam Dunk manga series would be available in April of 2020. There were supposed to be 11 original illustrations in the bundle being released by the creator of one of the most beloved manga series.

The new series’ availability also gave rise to fans’ hope that Slam Dunk anime season 2 is currently in the works. The anime series went off the air on 23 March 1996, concluding a 101 episode run. Over the years, fans have sought out the series, and as fans of Slam Dunk are perfectly aware, the anime ends on a happy but also abrupt note.

We all know that the anime series was a way for the manga creators to generate interest in the manga series. The anime turned out to be a hit, and then the viewers needed to buy the manga to know exactly how the show would end. Obviously, Slam Dunk season 2 was nowhere to be seen, but over the past two decades and a half, fans have not stopped hoping.

With the release of new illustrations, Takehiko Inoue reignited interest in the Slam Dunk anime season 2. There were multiple YouTube videos and social media posts about the possibility of the show coming back on the air. On the other hand, the illustrations were just that, new content for fans who have stuck with the anime and manga for decades now.

Slam Dunk anime season 2 is not happening, there are no production companies currently attached to make a new show, continuing on the final shot at the train station. The boys are still to win the National Championship in the anime, but for people looking to find the end of the anime will have to consult with the manga series.

There were also fans searching for Slam Dunk on Netflix. The streaming platform is actively adding anime shows on the platform, with One Piece being the latest to be made available in its entirety. Fans are hoping Netflix will get the rights to the show and commission addition episodes for Slam Dunk anime season 2.

Netflix acquired One Piece, and the episodes are available for viewing on the streaming platform. But the streaming platform is not only showing the anime series, but they are also currently working on a live-action adaptation of the long-running anime series.

The same is the case for Cowboy Bebop, live-action version of the show was already being filmed in New Zealand. Fans are hoping for Slam Dunk anime season 2, but if Netflix gets in on the game, they will probably go with the live-action route.

Slam Dunk Anime Season 2 Release Date

Slam Dunk anime season 2 is a difficult prospect at this juncture. Even though the manga and anime were the reason for the popularity of basketball in Japan, there does not appear much interest in making a sophomore season for the beloved show. As of this date, the Slam Dunk anime season 2 release date is not set.

Toei Animation has made a long-running animation series, One Piece, for example. They also made Slam Dunk, but making a season 2 does not appear to be on the agenda. For fans hoping to get another season of their beloved show, it seems better to stick with manga.

Maybe in the future, someone tries to continue the story of Sakuragi and Shohoku High Scool Basketball Team. You can, however, watch the four anime movies released between 1994 and 1995. But Slam Dunk anime season 2, at this moment, appears to be a pipe dream.
