This week it was announced that The Walking Dead would be coming soon to Disney Plus also among the streaming news was The Mysterious Benedict Society. A young-adult series based on a children’s book series from a respected writer and a show that could not be further away from TWD. As we are getting closer to summer Disney Plus is slowly ramping up the release of new shows on the streaming platform. Though the customer number has been stellar for the relatively new streaming service there is a severe lack of original programming that is not geared towards Stars Wars or Marvel fans. So, The Mysterious Benedict Society is one more project coming in to balance the scales a little.
There are original shows such as The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and Big Shot currently streaming, along with the second season of High School Musical series. But Mighty Ducks is coming in with their last episode next week and Big Shot is also slowly moving into the last leg of the show. The Mysterious Benedict Society Plot – What is the Show About?
The Mysterious Benedict Society was a book released in 2007 and it shot all the way to the top of the New York Times Bestsellers list. A further two sequels were released in 2008 and 2009 with a prequel book released in 2012 and a fourth book coming in 2019. Written by Trenton Lee Stuart, the book was well received by the critics and now it is getting a series treatment at Disney Plus.
The plot of The Mysterious Benedict Society revolves around four kids who are either orphans or not cared for by their parents. But all of the kids are gifted in their own ways and they meet Nicholas Benedict who is strange but on a mission along with his assistants to defeat Ledroptha Curtain, Mr. Benedict‘s twin brother. Mr. Benedict enlists the help of the kids to help him stop Mr. Curtain from destroying the world by brainwashing all the people.

According to the release by DMED, “After winning a scholarship competition, four gifted orphans are recruited by the peculiar Mr. Benedict for a dangerous mission to save the world from a global crisis known as The Emergency. Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance must infiltrate the mysterious L.I.V.E. Institute to discover the truth behind the crisis. When the headmaster, the sophisticated Dr. Curtain appears to be behind this worldwide panic, the kids of “The Mysterious Benedict Society” must devise a plan to defeat him.”
The Mysterious Benedict Society Cast
Tony Hale plays both Mr. Benedict and Mr. Curtain. Mr. Benedict is a strange man who opened a school to find children who can help him in a quest to end his brother’s reign of terror. While Mr. Curtain is bent on trying to destroy the world by brainwashing all the people living here.
Mystic Inscho plays Reynie Muldoon, an intuitive and instinctive boy with an eye for logical problem solving. Seth Carr plays George ‘Sticky’ Washington, he has a brain that can store knowledge like no other. Emmy DeOliveira plays Kate Weatherall, a kid with talents to be where she is not supposed to be. And Marta Timofeeva as Constance Contraire, a snobby kid who can read minds and is fed up of everyone else.
The release date for The Mysterious Benedict Society is on 25 June 2021. Episode titled A Bunch Of Smart Orphans will be released on the day with subsequent episodes arriving every Friday. So, get ready to stream the new 8 episode drama series coming to Disney Plus.
