John Wick was a once in a generation action movie, a film that defines a whole decade. Well, writer Derek Kolstad and producer David Leitch are trying to catch lightning in a bottle the second time around with Bob Odenkirk starrer Nobody.
Ever wished Saul Goodman could fight, well, you are getting your wish, somewhat. Bob Odenkirk is leaving his chirpy lawyer guise behind to turn into a suburban dad who is tired of hiding his true self. And we will get to see an amalgamation of exiled Saul Goodman mixed with John Wick in Nobody.
With the movie gestating for a long time, most people did not even know Nobody was in development. Well, from Bob Odenkirk’s preparation for the movie to the people involved in the making of the flick, here is everything you need to know.

In Nobody, Bob Odenkirk plays Hutch Mansell, a former so-called auditor. The last person you expected to see at your door because that meant you did not have long to live. As Hutch explains in voice-over, he worked for some dangerous people but was tired of that life.
Suffering from PTSD and a fledgling grasp at his own sanity and anger, Hutch is pushed to the edge when two thugs decide to invade his home. Fearing he will lose a handle on his own life, Hutch decides not to attack the invaders and instead becomes a pariah in his own family.
But the invaders decide to rob his neighbor’s house when Hutch decides to let the monster loose. The “dormant piece” in himself goes loose after 12 years, only to let the people from his past come back to seek their revenge.
And when a Russian mafia man decides to take on the seemingly Nobody things take a bloody turn. Stockpiles of automatic weapons, hidden safe rooms, and unusual currencies come into play as Hutch decides to be who he was before he went domestic.
Writer and Director of Nobody Love Doing Action Movies
For those drawing comparisons between Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody and Keanu Reeves‘ John Wick, you are not far off. Since the movie is written and produced by the same people involved in the John Wick franchise there is a shared DNA between the two movies.
Derek Kolstad who is known for writing the first John Wick movie is the writer of Nobody. David Leitch who was the producer in John Wick is producing the Bob Odenkirk action flick. David is also known for his work in another John Wick type movie, Atomic Blonde, and directing Deadpool 2 as well as Hobbs & Shaw more recently.
Sitting on the director’s chair is Ilya Naishuller. He is the Russian director who made the experimental and video game looking action movie Hardcore Henry. Known for his music video director, Ilya is coming back after five years to direct his second feature film.
Coming from two people who were involved in setting up the world of John Wick, it is understandable there are going to be some of those same flavors in Nobody. Even Bob Odenkirk said the movie has some elements of the John Wick DNA.
The Cast of Nobody
Bob Odenkirk is leading the cast of Nobody as Hutch Masell. He is the former employee of various dangerous people, later decided to walk away and working hard to hide as a forgettable suburban dad.
Hutch’s wife in the movie is played by Connie Nielsen. The actress is known for her performance in Gladiator and more recently as Hippolyta, the mother of Wonder Woman, in the DC extended universe. Connie plays Becca Mansell in Nobody.

Bob and Connie’s characters also have two kids played by Gage Munroe and Paisley Cadorath. Their lack of empathy for their father after the home invasion causes Bob’s character to let go of the monster within him.
How Bob Odenkirk Got in Shape for Nobody?
Just because you want to star in an action movie does not mean you are the right person for the job. Keanu Reeves showed how good a movie looks when the star knows how to do the stunts. Bob Odenkirk also decided he was not going to phone it in and rely on stuntman and clever editing to get the job done.
The actor revealed in an interview with IGN that he was training for about two years. As we’ve mentioned earlier Nobody saw a long delay in production that meant Bob had time to perfect the look he was aiming for in the movie.
He mentioned that being a comedy writer he did not go to the gym or even exercised but for Nobody, he pushed himself to go to the gym every day. The idea was not to transform himself into an action star but instead look like a suburban dad who did not let his body go totally.
Instead of going for muscle gain, the actor went for strength training and conditioning so he can do most of his stunts. Bob also drew a comparison between action choreography and being in a writer’s room. The similarity in the process was what he was able to latch onto, and later act out on camera.
Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody Release Date and Trailer
The first poster for Nobody was released on 10 December 2020 and a few hours later the trailer for the movie also arrived. Filled with heavy weaponry, dry humor, and a lot of R-rated action, the trailer evokes the memory of the first John Wick.
According to the trailer, Bob Odenkirk’s Nobody will be released on 26 February 2021 in theaters only. Considering we live in a COVID world don’t be surprised if the release date for the movie is changed in the future.
