Klaus Spin Off is Coming - The Umbrella Academy favorite is Getting a Solo Outing

Klaus or Number 4 is a beloved character from The Umbrella Academy comics and the subsequent Netflix series. Number 5 is definitely a strong character too, but let’s not kid ourselves, Klaus’ antics kept most of us watching in the first season.

The Umbrella Academy season 2 further cemented Klaus as a favorite character. Even the cult he started by singing TLC’s Waterfall was hilarious and a running joke throughout the second season. Imagine our excitement when we heard the comic book’s creator is coming back with a spinoff solely based on the antics of Klaus.

Gerard Way created the comic series about the misfit adopted family of Sir Reginald Hargreaves in 2007. Gerard, a singer-songwriter who co-formed the band My Chemical Romance, is coming together with his former writing partner Shaun Simon to pen the new stories for Klaus.

Klaus Spinoff Comics – What is the Title of the Comics?

According to the information Gerard disclosed to Forbes, the singer/writer revealed the comic is called You Look Like Death. An exclusive trailer supporting the announcement was also made available through the site.

What timeline is Klaus You Look Like Death Set?

Any timeline you look at for Klaus, the story is going to be amazing. Whether it is his time in the 1960s, starting a cult, going to Mexico, and India while gathering a devout following, or his time in The Umbrella Academy as a teenager, 4 will be 4.

But Gerard Way has a clear idea of where he wants to take Number 4‘s story and the themes he wants to explore. The popular singer and comic writer said he wants to tell the story of Number 4after he was kicked off The Umbrella Academy and before the events of Apocalypse Suite.

“Of all of the siblings, Klaus was always the first one I wanted to explore because I had a lot of ideas about what happened to him in the ten years before ‘Apocalypse Suite,’” Gerard said. “It felt like a big story in itself. Since then, I’ve filled in the gaps on what the other siblings were up to in that ten-year span, and I’d like to explore those stories as well.”

You Look Like Death Will Show an 18-Year-Old Klaus Finding His Way in Hollywood

Adult Klaus is a morosely happy and satisfied in his misery type of person. Now, imagine an 18-year-old recently kicked out of a superhero team Number 4 and his time on the dark side of Hollywood. Sounds extremely intriguing, which is why Gerard Way is excited to explore a Klaus prequel during what became his formative/adult life.

“Los Angeles is a place where you can very easily lose sight of who you are, and that is what is happening to Klaus in this series,” Gerard continued. “We see him develop stronger habits and explore more extreme things than he had before. Los Angeles is also a place with a strong dark side, as well as this undercurrent of the occult.

“It is also a place where somewhat nefarious people transplanted here can more easily thrive and spread out roots, so there’s a good chance Klaus runs the risk of getting chewed up and spit out,” the singer/writer concluded.

The way Umbrella Academy’s world is set up, it leans more toward hyperrealism, and the presence of a superhero is surely going to change the world a little. This is why Hollywood would be an interesting setting for the comic book; it will also help contrast his and Alisson‘s lives, who will become a Hollywood star.

Dark Horse is publishing the spinoff comic as well as Vol. 4 of the beloved comic series. The title of Vol. 4 is (Spoiler Alert) The Sparrow Academy.
