Steve Blackman adapted the comic book Umbrella Academy and created the juggernaut show on Netflix. He was recently asked about the possibility of doing more Umbrella Academy and spinoffs (Klaus spinoff series). The creator of The Umbrella Academy series replied, “If there’s an appetite for it.”
Let’s be honest, almost everyone who has seen Klaus in the show are a fan of Klaus and the actor playing the beloved character. At this point, most would give the prospective spinoff series a chance. If it were just us, well, we would watch anything Klaus is involved in at this point.
Number 5 and Number 4 are the reason why the first season was such a buzzy series in 2019. The same is the case for the show being in the Top 10 of Netflix shows, almost all over the world. Klaus managed to build a cult in the Netflix series, but the almost cult-like following already exists in the real world, for the actor and the character.
Klaus Spinoff Series – Steve Blackman is Cautiously Excited
There is still no talk of The Umbrella Academy season 3 at the moment. The sophomore season has been out for less than a week, but considering the constant trend all over social media and internet message boards, there is no doubt Netflix will greenlight a third season. Well, if they don’t, people are going be awfully pissed about the cliffhanger finale.
But talking to Digital Spy, Steve Blackman was cautiously optimistic there will be chances to do more Umbrella Academy if the fans want it. The showrunner of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy said he does not want to run the characters to the ground, but he would not pass the opportunity to tell more stories about the dysfunctional family.

“I think Klaus and Ben, or Klaus and Diego – Any of those, to me, would be wonderful spinoffs,” Steve replied, throwing ideas about what a Klaus spinoff series would look like. “I think you could do a limited series with them for four or six episodes, and it would be great. I think even Robert could do his own little thing about Klaus.”
“Look, you never want to overdo something. But if there’s an appetite for it, I mean, I think the actors would be up for it, and we would all be up for it. Because we all love working together.” he explained. “We really get along well. None of us are from Toronto, where we shoot, so we’re all away from our real families, so we’re the family they get when they’re there. It’s a nice group of people.”
What Does Robert Sheehan Have to Say About A Klaus Spinoff Series?
If Robert Sheehan never does anything else in his life, he would still be a fan favorite, and there would be people clamoring to see him. Hayden Christensen was hated for his role as Anakin Skywalker, but over the years, he has become a staple in fan gatherings, and people love the man he is.
Robert and Hayden are two different cases, but the masses love them both as humans and not just the characters they play. So, Robert Sheehan is fine, he will always be beloved, so there is no need for him to drag out a beloved character. But he seems extremely excited to do anything else with his character of Klaus.
“I’ve loved this whole experience. And getting to play Klaus, it doesn’t feel like coming to work, really,” Robert said about playing Klaus. “It’s really fun, and it’s about accessing that sort of trickster god energy. It’s quite a natural innocence. It’s a great source of creativity. And to get to do more of that? Absolute-bots.”
“Me and Mr. Hopper have unfinished business on screen. I think we have more to do, definitely, in Umbrella or a spinoff,” Robert quipped about the possibility of a Klaus spinoff series story thread. By Hopper, Robert means his on-screen brother Number One. We would pay good money to see Klaus run rings around the bull-headed Luther in a Klaus Spinoff series.
