Fast & Furious 9 Director Justin Lin Says Fans Will Feel the Presence of Paul Walker

Justin Lin, the director of Fast & Furious 9, says viewers will get a glimpse of Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Conner in the upcoming film.

Justin Lin, the man sitting on the director’s chair throughout the Fast & Furious franchise, has announced that viewers can get a taste of Paul Walker‘s character Brian O’Conner in Fast 9 (2021).

Brian, who was portrayed by Paul Walker till the horrific accident resulting in his tragic death in 2013, makes a fleeting appearance in the new Fast & Furious trailer.

Justin Li admitted the notion that Brian O’Conner being “alive” in the Fast universe is quite profound and significant.

The helmer added that the film’s placement in the franchise means there is potential to incorporate numerous characters, most surprisingly Han.

Justin explained,

When we talk about Fast 9, this is the first time for me creatively approaching it not as just the one film. In the past, I’ve always felt like, we’re lucky enough to do one, let’s do everything we can. But Vin [Diesel] finally talked me into it, you know, when I came back, he’s like, ‘Well, let’s think about it as a final chapter.’

The director continued,

So Fast 9 is really the beginning of the final chapter of the saga. So in doing that, I think there’s a lot of room to really place our characters, and Brian obviously is a big part of the universe still.

Lin went on to state that he believes it would be more fitting for the Fast & Furious films to display Brian O’Conner rather than just referring to his off-screen appearance through conversation.

Justin elucidated,

I want to always be very respectful and how we present that. I think that [in] Nine, you will feel the presence of Brian, for sure.

Fast 9 is expected to hit theatres in the United States on 25th June 2021.
