The well-renowned American singer Demi Lovato has revealed that their pronouns will be changed to gender-neutral they/them.
Demi Lovato announced on Wednesday that she is nonbinary and is switching her pronouns, telling fans that she made the conscious decision after doing “self-reflective work.”
Lovato announced on Twitter,
Today is a day I’m so happy to share more of my life with you all — I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary.
In an accompanying clip, they said they’ll formally be updating their pronouns to they/them going forward.

They chose gender-neutral pronouns because they better reflect the dynamism they feel in their gender identity, according to Lovato.
They added,
I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones.
The singer behind hits like Cool for the Summer, Really Don’t Care, and Anyone recently opened up about their mental health and substance abuse issues in a YouTube documentary that tracked their struggle before and after a near-fatal overdose in 2018.
