Home Alone Reboot - What's the Official Title & Release Date?

We finally know the official title and Disney+ release date for the Home Alone reboot. The movie will arrive just in time for Christmas this year.

The upcoming Home Alone reboot now has an official title and a release date on Disney+. The new edition of the Macaulay Culkin Christmas cult favorite, first revealed in 2019, will star Saturday Night Live‘s Kenan Thompson and Netflix‘s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper.

It has now been revealed that the film will be named Home Sweet Home Alone and will be released on Disney+ on 12th November — just in time for the holidays.

The film will also feature Rob Delaney from Deadpool 2, Archie Yates from Jojo Rabbit, Aisling Bea from This Way Up, Ally Maki from Cloak & Dagger, Chris Parnell from Archer, Tim Simons from Veep, Pete Holmes from Crashing, and Devin Ratray from the original Home Alone film.

Dan Mazer will be sitting on the director’s chair, with Saturday Night Live writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell writing the script.

Thompson provided an update on the status of Home Sweet Home Alone earlier in 2021, conceding that the COVID-19 pandemic had impacted production.

He said in April,

It was a long shoot. It started in Canada and got shut down and then came back around because of the pandemic and stuff, so it’s been very splotchy, I guess, as far as trying to get it done is concerned. But I think they’re getting very close to finishing it.

Meanwhile, original Home Alone director Chris Columbus has previously stated that he will not be watching the reboot, labeling it a “waste of time.”

Columbus said,

I’m a firm believer that you don’t remake films that have had the longevity of Home Alone. You’re not going to create lightning in a bottle again. It’s just not going to happen. So why do it?

The Home Alone reboot hits Disney+ on 12th November 2021.
