One Tree Hill's Hilarie Burton Wants "Do-over with a Girl Boss"

One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton was left feeling embarrassed by how the show dealt with female sexuality.

One Tree Hill star Hilarie Burton recently admitted she feels “embarrassed” by the show’s depiction of “teen girl sexuality” stating she is disappointed by the fact that female sexuality narratives were being told by men.

Burton, who portrayed Peyton Sawyer in the drama, quoted a remark on Twitter after another user uploaded a snapshot from their “adolescent psychology textbook” featuring Peyton’s picture where she’s embracing her boyfriend Lucas Scott, played by Chad Michael Murray.

The picture caption in the book refers to teens being subjected to sex in several contexts, including TV, and Burton said she wasn’t pleased with how women’s sexuality was addressed on One Tree Hill.

She wrote,

Embarrassed by this. Teen girl sexuality was a cornerstone of #oth, so its gross to me that there were no women in positions of power there. No one we could turn to to advocate for us. Men telling the stories of girl sexuality is a red flag. I want a do-over with a girl boss.

Her declaration was greeted with love and support by fans. One user wrote,

You all deserved so much better and so did the viewers … I hope things are changing now for the better.

She was also supported by her One Tree Hill co-star Sophia Bush, who portrayed Brooke Davis in the series, commenting: “co-sign.”

Meanwhile, OTI showrunner Mark Schwahn was the subject of sexual harassment accusations during his time at The Royals in 2017, while several One Tree Hill cast members penned an open letter to him the same year about the treatment they received during their stint in the program.

Another One Tree Hill actor Jana Kramer, who portrayed Alex Dupre on the CW drama, recently talked about behind-the-scenes problems she had encountered whilst filming the show, revealing that one unspecified person “made it hell” for those on the set.

Kramer did not confirm the name of the individual she was talking about or whether they were an actor or someone from the crew.
