'Saw X' is Reportedly in Early Development - What Can We Expect?

Saw X is currently in early development, so what is it going to be all about?

Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021) hasn’t even been released yet, but Lionsgate is said to be working on a landmark tenth installment in the horror franchise.

After Jigsaw struggled to properly reinvigorate the series in 2017, Spiral is looking to take a different approach, with the added benefit of starring two genuine stars in Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. And it seems that the production company is confident enough in it to move forward with a sequel right away.

Lionsgate is currently developing Saw X, according to Production Weekly. That’s all we know for the time being, aside from the fact that it’s being created by James Wan‘s Atomic Monster.

Fans are curious if Wan, the franchise’s original director, will be marking his return to play a more active part in the proceedings for this landmark entry in the series. However, he has been listed as an executive producer on all of the movies so far, so this might not be the case.

Since we’re aware of the Saw universe’s obsession with twists, it’s hard to tell if Saw X will be a straightforward continuation to Spiral, with either Rock or Jackson coming back, or whether it’ll be more of a separate sequel.

In any scenario, Lionsgate must be sure enough from the pre-release hype that it will be well received by fans and critics to move on with a tenth installment in the saga right away.

Darren Lynn Bousman is sitting on the director’s chair for Spiral while it’s written by Jigsaw writers Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The movie stars Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols.

Here’s the detailed rundown teasing Rock and Jackson’s characters as they investigate a copycat murderer who’s reenacting the original Jigsaw’s (Tobin Bell) gruesome games. The synopsis reads,

A sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in SPIRAL, the terrifying new chapter from the book of SAW. Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Chris Rock) and his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw is slated to come out on 14 May following a year-long postponement.
