Is there any role that Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t fan cast into? Every year the talented actor is asked to play this character and that role on social media. This year, fans want Benedict to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in the upcoming Stars Wars series based on Ahsoka Tano coming to Disney+

Benedict Cumberbatch is fairly in the Disney camp so there should not be that hard to get the actor to play the role. But the problem is not with allegiance and it purely resides on the preference of the actor to utilize most of his time either working or being with his family.

For those who did not watch Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels, Grand Admiral Thrawn is blue, imagine James Cameron‘s Avatar without the lines or spots. Thrawn is an exciting villain and someone who went against Ahsoka‘s allies in the series. So, the fans wanted Benedict to take on the role but the actor flatly refused when he heard what the role would entail.

Benedict Cumberbatch is Not Interested in Wasting His Time Putting on Blue Paint

Grand Admiral Thrawn is a member of the Chiss race, they are inherently blue and he is a striking figure in a white livery. Thrawn was the point of authority for the remnants of the Empire after the events of Return of the Jedi. A force wielding villain, Thrawn was a great villain on the Disney XD series.

Now, similar to Ahsoka Tano, who also only appeared in cartoons before making her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, Thrawn is getting the live-action treatment. Disney+ already announced an Ahsoka Tano series and she will be going up against the Blue villain.

We already have a fan-cast turned into reality Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and fans were trying to work their magic again. They wanted the beloved Doctor Strange and Sherlock actor to play Thrawn in the untitled series but when the actor heard about it all, he was far from interested.

Benedict was talking with the people over at Collider when the topic of Star Wars villain was broached. The actor was made aware of the desire of the fans and when all the confusion regarding Thrawn died down and they explained he is blue in color, Benedict was not interested.

He said, “That’s a straight no from me, right now. There’s no way I want to be turned blue. I turned the air blue, very recently. No no, seriously, I have precious time with my children and I think sitting in a make-up chair and being painted blue, and the amount of time it would take to do that and then take it off at the end of the day might just… it’s not the right time in my life for that.”

We have all seen Jennifer Lawrence sit in a chair for hours and then stand for even more as a makeup team put blue paint and scales all over her body. It was reported by Business Insider that for X-Men: First Class, the actress had to wait eight hours while the makeup was applied all over her body.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Thrawn would be cheating. It makes way too much sense and that casting would be spot on but not wanting to stay in the makeup tent for hours is a great reason not to take a role. Benedict is a family man, imagine eight hours of makeup, then film, then take off the makeup to go home, there are not enough hours in the day to do all that and not burn yourself out.

The fans may want the actor as Grand Admiral Thrawn in the Ahsoka Tano series but the reason he gave is understandable. The new Disney+ series will just have to make do with the positive coverage of The Mandalorian and a recognizable face as Thrawn. It isn’t like without Benedict Cumberbatch people are not going to see the series.
