HBO’s The Last of Us Has its Joel and Ellie

In 2013 first The Last of Us game was released to rave reviews and applauds from fans around the world. The game won multiple awards and sold nearly 20 million copies. The success of the game and the story within it resulted in HBO greenlighting a TV show based on the game. Now nearly a year after the series announcement we have our Joel and Ellie.

HBO started the planning process on The Last of Us in March of 2o2o. Craig Mazin was hired as the executive producer of the show. Owing to his successful outing as the creator of HBO’s hit miniseries Chernobyl, the director was tapped to helm the beloved game series’ adaptation to the small screen.

With full writing and producing team behind the show, HBO greenlit the project in November 2020. All that was left for the show to do was cast the two leading characters and we have to say HBO got it spot-on with the casting choices for the character of Joel and Ellie.

The Last of Us got a lot of credit for its portrayal of the relationship between Joel and Ellie. Joel is like a father figure to Ellie. He is tasked with getting Ellie out of a quarantine zone and in their fight for survival against blood-thirsty mutant, Joel and Ellie form a deep bond.

The HBO series is rumored to be dealing with the first game and little portions of the sequel also included. While Chris has not mentioned any detail about the show, we are definitely excited to see Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey playing the roles of Joel and Ellie.
