For the fans of How I Met Your Mother, Ted Mosby is definitely an iconic name. Portrayed by Josh Radnor, the character managed to provide countless life lessons concerning love, friendship, and relationship during the course of nine years the popular sitcom ran on CBS.

Although the ending left a sour taste for many, there’s no doubt the show managed to touch our hearts in a manner only a few series could.

Meanwhile, Josh Radnor might sound an unfamiliar name to some because the actor is almost synonymous with his character Ted Mosby. Whenever we see the man, we can only think of Ted, and who could blame us? That’s the most prominent character the actor has ever played in his professional career.

Fans know almost everything there is to know about Mosby, but how well do we know Radnor? Well, one thing you might not be aware of is the fact that Josh Radnor is a strong advocate for mental health awareness.

Last year, Radnor participated in the Academic Culture Assembly as one of the main speakers for Mental Health Awareness Month. He outlined his issues with depression during the first few seasons of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and how the rise of fame added little satisfaction to his life.

Radnor regarded numerous shamanic visits to Brazil, where he drank the hallucinogenic drink of Ayahuasca, as a significant turning point in his emotional well-being.

Radnor said,

There was something about being demolished or bowing at the feet of that enormous medicine … It really gave me some sense of something much bigger than what was happening on CBS.

The 46-year-old does not prescribe Ayahuasca to everyone but addressed the value of counseling and relaxation to improve his mental health.

Students also inquired Radnor on how to cope with self-doubt and handle career changes. The actor stressed the importance of finding a mentor to develop trust and embrace the eventual challenges of adulthood.

I don’t know a single person that has just a single uninterrupted rollercoaster of ‘this is only getting better.’ It just doesn’t happen that way.

For the theater majors in the crowd, Radnor recalled stories of unsuccessful acting attempts and offered guidance on the need for resilience in the film business.

A lot of people have the talent to be a professional actor; not everyone has the stomach.

Many of the participants asked Radnor about his popular role as Ted Mosby in ‘How I Meet Your Mother.’ Although Radnor said he loved his time on the show and the exposure it offered him, he wanted viewers to be able to distinguish his name from the sitcom persona.

The actor, however, still appreciates the unbridled joy that the series continues to offer to its viewers.

I don’t know what I did or what we did to have made a show that has a certain antidepressant quality to it, but it’s unbelievable.

‘How I Met Your Mother’ is widely regarded as one of the greatest sitcoms in television history thanks to the sensational performance by Josh Radnor.
