In the comics Valentina is a talented spy why bested Nick Fury in hand to hand combat resulting in her getting hired by shield. She was a close ally of Nick and at one time even his romantic partner but soon after the downfall of SHIELD things about her past come to life. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is a Russian plant in SHIELD and she later joins Hydra.

Valentina is later imprisoned in the comics and this appearance looks like a continuation from the imprisonment.
