Gunpowder Milkshake is a STX production about a group of female assassins called the sisterhood who come together to protect a woman and her daughter. The events of the movie take place within a night and shows the assassins trying to stop a cycle of violence so they can help a mother daughter duo who are themselves assassins.

So, the premise is interesting when the first look pictures of the movie were released, they were even more intriguing. It all sounds like Nikita, mixed with Leon: The Professional and a little bit of John Wick added to give it flavor. Nikita‘s agency, Leon‘s training of an almost foster daughter and John Wick‘s fighting and use of time appear to be big inspirations.

But Karen Gillan is not alone in her quest to protect her foster daughter. She is joined by Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey who plays Scarlet, the leader of the sisterhood, in the movie. When a crime syndicate comes for Eva and her daughter, they seek help from Scarlet and her friends and all of them bring their guns and knives along.

While the film is yet to be released, StudioCanal believes in the franchise potential of the flick, having already greenlit a sequel before the first one is even released. In the past Karen Gillan has appeared in blockbuster movies and beloved TV shows, but in a supporting or also-starring roles. But with Gunpowder Milkshake, she is the star of the film, kicking ass and taking name while launching an international franchise

Directed by critically acclaimed Israeli director Navot Papushado, the film is his first English language production. And with theater going being the way it is now, the director is getting the widest possible release for his film with the help of Netflix. It is not certain however if he will return for the sequel, but it is a given most of the ladies will be reprising their roles.
