Whether it is the rope wielding villain in Casino Royale, or human eating cannibal in Hannibal, or even the Death Star dooming scientist in Rogue One, Mads Mikkelsen has been a part of massive franchises. Adding to that list is an unspecified role in the upcoming and highly anticipated Indiana Jones 5 movie. And the actor says he has read the script and says it is collaborative, fun and particularly exciting.
Indian Jones is a four-decade old franchise with Harrison Ford playing the titular role in all four of the past movies. The franchise has been highly successful with nearly $2 billion in total box office gross and has garnered itself a massive and loyal fan following. But the fourth movie in the franchise arrived to lukewarm reception by both fans and critics which shelved a possible fifth movie for over a decade.
After years of speculation and production delays we are finally getting Indian Jones 5 with Harrison Ford set to come back and most of the casting process done. Harrison always said he needed a good script to play the role again and it seems his wishes have come true. Well, if Mads Mikkelsen’s level of enthusiasm is any indicator, Indiana Jones 5 is bringing the franchise back into form.
Mads Mikkelsen’s Wishes Come True in Indiana Jones 5 Script
It was all the way back in 2006 when the first James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig was released. Casino Royale not only breath new life into the decades old franchise, but it also introduced the world to the brilliance of Mads Mikkelsen. In 2021 the actor is a household name with appearances in Hannibal series, Star Wars movies and more recently in the critically acclaimed movie Another Round.
Mads Mikkelsen said he was a fan of Raiders of the Lost Ark (who isn’t?) and he grew up watching the film. So, appearing in the franchise, he spent his teen years watching, has brought its own set of challenges and excitement for the actor. And he said the collaborative effort of bringing a new character to life in the extremely successful franchise was the pull of the script of Indiana Jones 5
While there is still not much information outside of the casting news, coming from Indian Jones 5, the Doctor Strange villain confirmed he has read the script. And he went on to explain, for a fan, “it was everything” he wished it would be. But beware the producers, Mads Mikkelsen previously lost Casino Royale script on a plane, keep an eye on those papers.

“I’m very, very excited about it. I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day. It is so well done and so charming, and it’s such great storytelling. So yes, it’s a great honor to be part of that franchise that I grew up with. I’m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great,” he explained during an interview with Collider.
Again, not much is known about the movie but the Hannibal actor mentioned the casting process tells the fan that this movie is going to be a collaborative effort. “I do think I’m invited in to create a character – I think that everybody wants that. That’s why they pick certain actors that they think can come up with certain things, and it will be a collaboration as it always is,” he explained.
With Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Thomas Kretschmann set to appear in unspecified roles, alongside Mads Mikkelsen, there are some facts to his statement about spontaneous actors being part of Indiana Jones 5. It is to be seen how well it all works out in the yet to be named sequel to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
But we do know one thing, Indian Jones 5 will be released in theatres on 29 July 2022. And though it has not been announced, Disney Plus will also become a hub for Indiana Jones fans, and the fifth movie will definitely find its way onto the streaming platform.
