Salma Hayek was Told Her Career Would Die Because She's Mexican

Salma Hayek was told she wouldn’t make it to Hollywood because of her Mexican nationality.

Salma Hayek reveals she was told her age and nationality would prevent her from achieving recognition as an actor.

The actress told the PA News Agency,

They told me my career would die mid-30s. First of all, they told me a Mexican is never going to make it, because at the time, the new generations, it was impossible for a Mexican to have a leading role in Hollywood.

She continued,

And it was like it was not real — it was like this strange reality that now has become a normality. But not at the time.

The 54-year-old Hayek now states she’s delighted to have prevailed in a tough industry.

And I think it’s great, I’m proud of it, I want to shout it to the world because I was told so many times it couldn’t happen and I almost believed them but I fought it and I won.

Hayek added she wants other women to understand it’s fine to flourish later in life.

I want other women to realize that, because even in your 30s you feel the pressure, in your 40s you feel the pressure — and late blooming, it’s a beautiful thing. And we’re not ‘over’ at this time, or at another time. If you’re creative and enthusiastic and curious about life, life can be exciting forever, the entire time.

One of Hayek’s horrible experiences in the movie industry is her time working with Harvey Weinstein in her 2002 hit film, Frida.

Last week, Hayek told the Evening Standard that while the chance to work with Weinstein appeared to be “a dream come true,” it quickly became a nightmare. In the past, she claimed Weinstein repeatedly abused her sexually, and even threatening her with abuse.

Nowadays, however, Salma is thriving both on and off the film screen. She’s got a daughter named Valentina, 13, with her entrepreneur husband François-Henri Pinault.

Recently, the actress can be seen regularly posting her sultry pictures on Instagram, which she describes as “liberating.” However, she claims those pictures are not the real depiction of her daily life as the images are from the same vacation and she is not exactly wearing bikinis every day.
