‘Sesame Street’ Introduces Two Black Muppets to Educate Young Viewers About Race

Sesame Street introduces two new black characters dad Elijah and his son Wes in the long-running show Sesame Street.

If you been following Sesame Street then you might well know about the new initiative ‘Sesame Workshop’. The workshop aims for providing support to families in explaining race and racism introducing people with color characters Wes, Elmo, and Elijah sharing to a statement on Tuesday.

If you watched the video you might know about the new episode which introduces the new characters. In the video, Elmo politely questions Elijah why Wes’ skin is brown while Elmo’s skin is brown.

“Melanin is something we each have inside our bodies that make the outside of our bodies the skin color that it is,” Elijah responds.

Elijah also shares with young audiences that ‘the color of our skin is an important part of who we are, but should know that it’s OK and look different in some many ways,’ truly inspiring.

Moreover,  Seasame Workshop has also released a music video to the song “Giant” featuring Wes, Abby Cadabby, and Rosita which explains the importance of feeling “Strong in their Skin”.

Sesame Street who works as a colorful community of monsters, grouches, birds, humans for a long time has been spreading us with good messages and influence. And the recent color of skin equality surely was one of the best ideas.
