To the Lake Netflix - Cast, Plot, Release Date, Plague and Other Details

Never let a tragedy go to waste, well, that seems to be the mentality of Netflix this fall as it gears up to release a show about a ravaging plague and low point of humanity. To the Lake is a Russian series from Netflix which is set for an October release date, with a Russian cast, and the subject matter of the show just seems a little too soon.

When the pandemic started New Amsterdam, a TV show on NBC, decided not to air their pre-finale episode because it contained people getting sick with a flu-like virus. The idea hit just too close to home, and most of the world was not even affected then, but now as the world hits two million COVID-related deaths, Netflix is releasing a show about a plague.

To the Lake Netflix Plot Details – What is the Show About?

To the Lake is a new show from Russia about an unknown plague which causes Moscow to lockdown and few people try to make it out of harm’s way. With the end of civilization coming nearer and nearer parents try to keep their children safe, in the face of insurmountable odds.

Netflix released a synopsis along with a placeholder card on their website, which reads, “Facing the end of civilization when a terrifying plague strikes, a group risks their lives, loves — and humanity — in a brutal struggle to survive.”

So the plot of the show is simply an unknown plague that throws humanity into chaos and brings out the animal nature in all. Sounds pretty much like the life we are all living right now, doesn’t it? Maybe the show was made before the pandemic happened, but still, some sensitivity doesn’t seem like a lot to ask for.

Now, while living during a pandemic, Netflix is feeding you a show about a plague. Don’t know if we should laugh at it or be mad about it. But there is also the other side of hopefulness, probably, (I haven’t seen the show), a message of “we will get through it all” may be at the heart of it all, we will just have to fear-watch To the Lake.

To the Lake Cast – Who is in the Netflix Show?

The show seems to be acquired by Netflix, instead of the streaming giant producing the series. The cast and the makers of the new Netflix series are all Russian. And as with the plague and end of the world type of stories, the cast is an ensemble.

Viktoriya Isakova and Kirill Käro lead the cast of To the Lake. Other notable Russian actors are joining the cast with Aleksandr Robak, Natalya Zemtsova, Maryana Spivak, Yuri Kuznetsov, Eldar Kalimulin, Viktoriya Agalakova, Alexander Yatsenko, and Saveliy Kudryashov all starring in various capacities.

There is not much known about what character the cast of To the Lake is playing the trailer mentioned some names, but you have to wait till the release of what Netflix calls a “chilling, scary, suspenseful, and emotional” series to match the cast with the characters they play.

To the Lake Netflix Release Date and Trailer

The new Netflix show was initially titled Epidemiya, but it is being promoted as To the Lake, maybe moving away from the on the nose name. The first trailer for the show was released on 24 September 2020. Interestingly Netflix’s YouTube channel did not release the trailer; instead, the short clip is available from a different source.

According to Netflix’s official page, To the Lake is set for 7 October 2020 release date. A Wednesday release for the show about a dangerous plague. Netflix just wants to slide this slow into their library without causing much fuss, probably.
