Maybe it is the boom in social media or the lack of “proper” discipline at home, some kids these days have lost touch with humility. That was in full display this week when high schooler Jseth Owens heckled Cam Newton at NFL’s quarterback camp where Cam came down with work with the kids.
Cam Newton, for a while, was one of the best QBs in the NFL. While he may not be at the same level anymore, he is still a premier athlete who can hold his own. NFL players have a short shelf life, but Cam has managed to keep himself at the NFL level for almost a decade now.
Then there is Jseth Owens, he may be a good high school player but there are thousands of high school players who never even sniffed the NFL. But for that same player to go after Cam Newton while he is there at a camp to help players like him is not only bad but shows a severe lack of humility on the young man’s part.

It was a normal day for Cam Newton, there was speculation about his future, but the player was in an upbeat mood. He had a previous engagement to appear at NFL Quarterback Camp with some high schoolers making the journey to learn from the player.
But what Cam would have never expected from the whole day was a boy heckling him. That is exactly what happened when Jsoth Owens decided to have his moment of fame and heckle the former NFL MVP. It was not only the heckling, there is always banter in sports, but the utter disrespect directed towards Cam was mind-blowing.
Imagine any other player at that position, anyone other than Cam who is known for being a calm person. But still, a kid trying to joke in front of his friends and trying to make a former MVP the butt of his joke shows an utter lack of humility on Jseth’s part.

As Cam was heading off the field a viral video showed Jseth calling him “a free agent.” At one point he also called Cam an “ass” and also said he was about to be poor. Newton was not angry he was smiling and calling for Jseth to bring his father.
Later the QB said, “I see there are a lot of things festering out there that I see took place over the weekend. To the natural eye, you see me asking the young man, ‘Where is your dad at?’ But to me, talking to a child with everyone looking does me no good! So instead of speaking or going back and forth with a child, I wanted to have a man-to-man conversation with his father.”
High Schooler Apologizes to Cam Newton
The confrontation was recorded and the clip went viral which resulted in some NFL stars giving a class in humility. Jseth Owens probably thought he was ripping Cam down, instead, he was the one getting the short end of the stick as people on social media piled on the high schooler.
Soon he released an apology saying, “First & for most [sic] I want to express my deepest apologies to Cam Newton, my entire org, & my coaches for my actions at the 7v7 tournament this past weekend. I did not intend for it to get as far as it did! It was in the midst of the moment & I realize now how a lot of you took it as disrespect.”

Well, let this be a learning moment for some of these young kids trying to get high school famous. It is a long way to NFL and making a bad impression goes a long way in this current world we live in. The internet never forgets, all Cam can do is forgive the kid for his moronic behavior.
