‘WandaVision’ Director Matt Shakman Warns Fan Theories Could Lead to Finale Disappointment

WandaVision Director Matt Shakman Warns Fan Theories Could Lead to Finale Disappointment

WandaVision helmer Matt Shakman warns some section of fans might be in for a disappointment upon hearing all the fan theories.

Since its release, WandaVision has spawned an utterly absurd amount of fan theories, which is not really new for Marvel Studios.

The soon airing season finale, however, won’t provide complete satisfaction to every fan – that’s per director Matt Shakman.

Speaking ahead of the widely awaited season one closure this week, Shakman acknowledged that some viewers might get disappointed.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shakman said:

I hope that they feel like the journey was satisfying for them. I know there are so many theories out there; there will be a lot of people who will no doubt be disappointed by one theory or another.

The director added,

But we’re always telling this story about Wanda dealing with grief and learning how to accept that loss, and hopefully, people will find that the finale is surprising but also satisfying and that it feels inevitable because it’s the same story they’ve been watching the whole time.

Shakman also talked about the sitcoms that WandaVision had almost caricatured over the course of the season. He explained,

There are a great many wonderful shows like Taxi or The Office that could’ve been inspirations, but the ones that we focused on were the ones that were about family because that’s obviously what Wanda yearns for.

For this, they looked at Full House (1987-1995), Family Ties (1982-1989), and Growing Pains (1985-1992). “We looked at so many different shows, and I have some small nods in there,” the director concluded.

WandaVision season finale streams on Disney+ on 5th March 2021.
