Tom Hiddleston Reveals the Moment He Learned About Loki's Death in 'Avengers: Infinity War'

Loki star Tom Hiddleston discloses the precise moment he learned about his character’s death at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

Marvel fan-favorite Tom Hiddleston revealed the moment he knew his popular character Loki would bite the dust in Avengers: Infinity War (2018).

While discussing his forthcoming Disney+ spin-off show, which stars the notorious Asgardian, the actor disclosed that he heard about the surprising twist a year before filming began.

Hiddleston told Empire magazine:

It was the very first scene the Russos, Joe and Anthony, had [come up with].

The God of Mischief added,

They told me about it in person when I went in to meet [Marvel 1Studios president] Kevin [Feige] and he was walking me through the loose sketch of the story for Thor: Ragnarok. This was May 2016.

Hiddleston continued,

So I knew, before I started Ragnarok, the endgame… no pun intended. Then it came time, three days in 2017 in the spring – I went out to Atlanta, and there was such a generous atmosphere from people on set. Some I’d known since the early days.

The 40-year-old went on to say, Josh Brolin, the star who plays The Mad Titan Thanos, was incredibly sweet.

Ironically, Brolin’s purple god was the one who literally choked Loki to death in the movie, as a means to demonstrate to Thor and his fellow Avengers that remorse is not something he possesses against those who serve as a threat against his grand vision of snapping off half the life in the universe.

The actor explained,

I remember meeting him, actually, when I landed, before we started filming. He just enveloped me in a big hug and said, ‘I’m sorry, man’. It was a big day, and a big moment.

Obviously, that wouldn’t turn out to be the final journey of our beloved trickster, as the sun shines on him again owing to the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), and he’ll shortly be the protagonist of his own unique series.

Loki gets the opportunity to step out of his brother Thor‘s (Chris Hemsworth) shadow and into the forefront, similar to fellow Disney+ shows WandaVision (2021) and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021).

Once inside, however, he finds himself in a heap of chaos as a result of his reality-bending, time-traveling antics from Endgame, thanks to the Tesseract.

The rest of the cast includes Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Lexus Renslayer, and Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15.
