For the past two years one of the most provocative and almost mirroring the current state of affairs TV show has been a dark humor superhero series The Boys. A world where superheroes are corporate players and inherently evil (most of them) Amazon Prime Video hit pay dirt with the show. Now, with The Boys season 3 in the pipeline, Anthony Starr hyped up the new show by saying it was his favorite season.

The Boys is an action superhero series based on the comics of the same name and executive produced by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogan with Eric Kripke working as the showrunner. In this new world the existence of superheroes is known. They are corporate entities and work for one single organization which tend to skewer the idea of what a superhero really should be.

In the first and second season we see a group of civilians deciding they have had enough of the “heroes” tyranny and decide to take matters into their own hands. The group led by Butcher hunts and kills “supes” and his mission is to one day get Homelander, the leader of The Seven and man who killed his wife. Anthony Starr plays the despicable character and while talking about the upcoming The Boys season 3, the actor said fans are going to “freak out.”

Freak Out Inducing The Boys Season 3 – Anthony Starr’s Favorite Season

(Spoilers to follow) In the second season of The Boys we saw Butcher’s wife being alive and raising a son in an enclosure, meant to keep the family away from society. Our vulagar vocabulary wielding hero then went on a rampage to expose the who operation of manufacturing villains instead of them being born. In their quest a politician also joins the fight but things take a dark turn by the end.

The politician turns out to be an even more powerful supe. She could explode people’s head with her glance/vision/presence (whatever). In the finale we also saw Butcher’s step son getting sent away with the CIA, as Butcher imparted some wisdom on the powerful kid. Also, Homelander was left stranded, no son, no girlfriend and a depleted team to go back to.

There are so many things to get to in The Boys season 3 and Homelander actor Anthony Starr is loving what the writers cooked up. According to the actor this is hit favorite season yet and he was surprised to read everything the writers had prepared for the team. We have heard in the pas The Boys season 3 will be a wild ride, but Anthony Starr had some choice words for TV Line.

He said, “Oh, my God, [Season 3] is hands down one of the most enjoyable seasons of TV I’ve had the good fortune of being involved with! I had a great time on season 2, and I thought we did something really cool there where we took it next-level in many ways from season 1, and really, it’s just the extension of that. I’m always curious to see what the writers, what these crazy people, are going to cook up, and it’s a pretty great feeling in season 3 to still be surprised and excited every time you turn a page in the material.”

While he explained there was not much he could divulge about the third season, the actor did mention that the fans “are going to freak out” after the show arrives. He also mentioned that there was going to be a big payoff at the end. The Boys is a really frustrating piece of work, with caricature of our real world, it can get somewhat overwhelming at times. So, a payoff to look forward to, in the similar vein of season 2, is an exciting prospect.

Season 1 and 2 are currently available for streaming on Prime Video, but The Boys season 3 has no premiere date as of this writing.
